Work out what your project actually involves

Not a price calculator. Six questions that surface the things which genuinely move a website quote, so you can read any estimate you are given, including ours.

This asks the same questions a cost calculator would, and deliberately does not produce a figure. Instead it tells you which factors apply to your project, which is the part that actually helps you compare quotes.

We do not publish prices anywhere on this site. The full reasoning, and the factors in prose, are in what a small business website costs.

Work out what drives your quote

Six questions. No figures, because a number without your requirements attached is a guess. What you get is the list of things that will actually move your price, and a message you can send us.

What do you actually need?

The most common wrong answer here is "a new website" when the existing one is fine and nobody can find it.

Roughly how many pages?

Ten pages sharing one layout is a small job. Five pages that are all different is a bigger one. Count layouts, not pages.

Do the words and photos exist?

This is the single biggest driver of both cost and timeline, and the one nobody warns you about.

Anything beyond ordinary pages?

Each of these is real work rather than a setting. Tick only what you actually need.

Who signs it off?

A real cost that never appears on a quote. One decision maker is fast; a committee is not.

Who looks after it once it is live?

A site is not furniture. Someone updates it, or it quietly rots.

Why we will not put a number on a page

Published website prices are usually one of two things. Either they are a low anchor designed to start a conversation, in which case the real number arrives later and the figure did you no good. Or they are a range so wide it tells you nothing.

The variables that genuinely decide a website project are not knowable from a form. Whether your content exists. Whether the existing site can be migrated or has to be rebuilt. Whether one person decides or five do. Those swing a project far more than page count, and they are exactly what a calculator cannot see.

So the useful output is not a number, it is the list of questions you should be asked. If a quote lands without anyone asking them, that is worth noticing.

Who this is for

  • Owners about to ask for quotes who want to compare them properly
  • Anyone who has been given an estimate and cannot tell what it covers
  • Businesses trying to work out whether they need a rebuild or a fix
  • Anyone who wants to think it through before speaking to a person

When this is not the right fit

  • Anyone who wants a figure without a conversation. It is not here and it would be invented.
  • Businesses needing an online store or checkout. We do not build payment systems.
  • Anyone who already knows exactly what they need. Skip this and just ask.

What SolvenceHQ can help with

The answers above are a good brief on their own. Send them over and the first reply will be a real one rather than a request for the same information again.

  • A quote based on what you actually need, not a package
  • An honest read on whether a rebuild is the right call
  • Design and build as one project
  • Ongoing care so it does not rot after launch
  • Telling you when the answer is that you do not need a new site

Common questions

Why does this not give me a price?

Because it would be made up. The honest inputs to a website quote include things this page cannot see: what your existing site is built on, how good the content really is, how many people need to approve it, and what you actually need it to do for the business.

A calculator that produced a figure from six clicks would be giving you a number precise enough to plan around and wrong often enough to be useless. We would rather give you the factors and then talk.

What do I do with the summary?

Send it to us, or do not. It is genuinely useful even if you take it to somebody else: it is the list of things any competent web person should be asking you about, and if a quote arrives without those questions having been asked, that tells you something.

Does this store my answers?

No. Everything happens in your browser. Nothing is saved and nothing is sent anywhere until you press the button, and then only what you can see in the summary. There is no tracking of individual answers.

That takes a short conversation about the answers above. Send them over and we will tell you what it would take, including if the honest answer is that you do not need what you thought.
